Celebrating 25 Years of Impact: The Power of Housing Stability
For 25 years, North Beach Citizens has helped individuals secure and maintain permanent housing through compassionate, relationship based support. Housing stability has remained at the core of our mission, grounded in the belief that safe and stable housing creates the foundation for improved health, dignity, and long-term well being.
Every person who walks through our doors begins their journey with a dedicated case manager who helps guide them from crisis toward stability. Through strong partnerships with organizations across San Francisco, we work to secure housing placements, connect clients to eviction prevention resources, access healthcare and mental health services, and provide ongoing support long after housing is secured.
For many older adults and vulnerable residents, this support also means helping them age safely in place. Our staff works closely with clients to ensure rent is paid, medications are secured, in-home support services are coordinated, and essential resources like delivered meals are in place. These personalized relationships and consistent wraparound services help ensure that individuals not only obtain housing, but remain safely housed and connected to care.
Because of this deeply compassionate and individualized approach, 90% of the individuals we help place into housing remain housed long term. Since our founding, North Beach Citizens has helped more than 3,500 individuals move toward greater stability, independence, and hope.
Behind every number is a personal story - stories like Keith’s.
During one of the most difficult periods of his life, Keith was facing overwhelming challenges related to his disabilities and was at risk of losing his housing. Through the support of North Beach Citizens staff, he was able to secure a doctor close to home, avoid eviction, and receive hands-on assistance when he needed it most.
“What meant the most to me was that my case manager, Adam, didn’t just offer support from a distance - he personally led a team of cleaners to help restore my room when I could no longer manage it on my own,” Keith shared. “It was an enormous undertaking, and one I could never have faced alone.”
Keith described carrying the weight of isolation and uncertainty before finding support through North Beach Citizens.
“The kind of compassion the staff showed me changed everything,” he said. “I feel deeply supported, cared for, and able to trust them with my needs. I am profoundly grateful knowing there are people who truly see me, stand by me, and refuse to let me fall through the cracks.”
Stories like Keith’s reflect the power of compassionate care, trusted partnerships, and consistent support that meets people where they are.
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we remain committed to strengthening our housing stability services and ensuring our neighbors have the support they need not only to secure housing, but to remain healthy, connected, and safely housed for years to come.
