San Francisco Chronicle Highlights Francis Ford Coppola and North Beach Citizens
In a recent San Francisco Chronicle feature, acclaimed filmmaker and North Beach Citizens founder Francis Ford Coppola reflected on his storied career, the making of The Godfather, and the urgent need to address homelessness in San Francisco. Coppola shared that he founded North Beach Citizens in 2001 after witnessing the daily struggles of unhoused neighbors, saying, “I used to walk to work and see these homeless people sleeping, and people would call them human garbage. What, are we crazy?” His comments underscore the ongoing importance of our community-based mission to provide housing, food, and essential services to our neighbors in need.
