NB Partnership

The North Beach Partnership (NBP)

In late 2004, the North Beach Partnership (NBP) was formed by the North Beach Neighborhood Beautification Advisory Committee to assist in the on-going fundraising efforts for the beautification of North Beach.

The NBP is based out of North Beach Citizens. Our overall goal is to provide an incentive-based volunteer program for North Beach Citizens’ homeless and low-income clients to beautify the under-serviced area of North Beach. We target areas that otherwise would not be cleaned by Department of Public Works due to budgetary constraints.

From its inception, the NBP has partnered with various individuals and community groups within North Beach including the
executive director of the Clean City Coalition, the North Beach Chamber of Commerce, the owner of North Beach Restaurant, several other local business owners (Tosca, Art Exchange Gallery, Caffé Roma, O’Reilly’s Irish Pub), members of Telegraph Hill Dwellers, Tel-Hi Neighborhood Center, Supervisor of District 3, St. Vincent de Paul Society, San Francisco Public Library, North Beach Merchants Association, Friends of Washington Square Park, North Beach Neighbors, and Department of Public Works. These symbiotic relationships have enabled the North Beach Partnership to become a vital beautification effort for our neighborhood.

The community speaks about the North Beach Partnership:

Tom O’Connor, former Gardener, Washington Square Park:
“It is obvious to me that when North Beach Citizens’ clean-up crew is in action, the streets and sidewalks are ‘without a doubt’
much cleaner. Please accept my support and admiration for the hard-working efforts of your crew.”

Ed Lee, former Director of Public Works:
“DPW supports community-based efforts to help us keep our city attractive and clean. Public-private partnerships among local businesses and dedicated community group such as North Beach Citizens are inspiring and they work.”

Gia Grant, Executive Director, San Francisco Clean City Coalition:
“The North Beach Sweeping Program has been an extensive collaboration since its inception… and only by working together
will we create lasting improvements”

Lorenzo Petroni, North Beach Restaurant:
“Keeping the streets clean is a major factor in making North Beach inviting to tourists, and intensive sweeping by manual workers
is an essential component of our local clean-up program. To lose any part of our clean-up program at a time when so many
businesses are suffering would be a shame… I have reason to believe that the street-sweeping program sponsored by North Beach Citizens is an unparalleled success — indeed, one that might become a model for other neighborhoods.”

Farideh Golchini at US Bank:
“My, you guys made a huge difference! We appreciate it. You guys are awesome!”

Mark, North Beach Citizens Street Beautification Crewmember:
“It gives me hope and a reason to get up in the morning. It gives me pride in myself.”

Thom, North Beach Citizens Street Beautification Crewmember:
“We are demonstrating the success that comes when you empower people, inspire people, and enable people, allowing them to feel useful and important about the work they do.”
